How to Crack the Common Entrance Exam (CEE)
Strategies for handling negative marking, time management, important topics, revision schedules.
Understanding the Common Entrance Examination (CEE)
The online Common Entrance Examination (CEE) is the first and most critical filter in the Indian Army recruitment process. Under the new recruitment system, only candidates who pass the written exam are invited to the physical rallies. This change was introduced to streamline the selection process and ensure that only serious, academically capable candidates reach the physical testing grounds. Therefore, preparing for the CEE should be your top priority.
Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme
The written exam is a computer-based test containing multiple-choice questions. For the General Duty trade, the paper consists of 50 questions: General Knowledge (15 Qs), General Science (15 Qs), Mathematics (15 Qs), and Logical Reasoning (5 Qs). The total exam is worth 100 marks, with a minimum passing requirement of 35 marks. However, simply passing is not enough; candidates must secure a high rank to make it to the physical rally cut-off list. Negative marking is active, penalizing incorrect answers by 0.5 marks. This means guessing blindly can severely damage your score.
Time Management and Study Tips
Create a structured study plan, allocating at least 4-5 hours daily for preparation. Focus heavily on basic mathematics and general science, as these subjects have high weightage. Use standard NCERT books from Class 8th to 10th to build strong foundations. When taking the exam, read each question carefully and attempt the questions you are 100% sure of first. Save the mathematical calculations for the second half of the exam. If you are unsure about an answer, it is better to skip it to avoid negative marking. Regular revisions are key to retaining facts and formulas.
