Introduction to Agniveer General Duty (GD)
The Agniveer General Duty (GD) is the backbone of the Indian Army, representing the primary combat arms of the force. Soldiers recruited under this trade are assigned to the Infantry, Armoured Corps, Artillery, and Air Defence regiments. Because GD soldiers are deployed on the front lines, the eligibility criteria and selection standards are exceptionally strict. Candidates must prepare methodically to clear both the written CEE and the rigorous physical rally.
Age and Educational Standards
The age limit for Agniveer GD is fixed between 17.5 and 21 years. Candidates must have passed Class 10th (Matriculation) with a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate and 33% in each individual subject. For educational boards that utilize a grading system, a minimum of D grade (33-40%) in individual subjects is required. Physical and Chest Expansion Rules
Physical standards vary by geographic zone. For the Western Plains (Punjab, Haryana, Delhi), the minimum height requirement is 170 cm. For the Eastern Plains (Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha), it is 169 cm, while the Southern Plains require 166 cm. Weight must correspond to the height-to-weight chart provided in the official notification. A minimum chest size of 77 cm with a compulsory 5 cm expansion is mandatory for all candidates. Failure to achieve the 5 cm chest expansion is a common cause of disqualification during physical screenings at the rally site.
Selection Procedure Overview
The selection process is divided into three distinct phases. Phase 1 is the online Common Entrance Examination (CEE), which tests basic knowledge in GK, Science, and Mathematics. Candidates who clear the CEE cut-off are called for Phase 2, the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) at the rally site. Here, achieving a top score on the run is critical.
